CDL celebrates 60th anniversary

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, City Developments Limited (CDL) marked its diamond jubilee with a grand event at the Orchard Hotel Singapore on the 5th of Septmember. The guest of honour for the event was Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, who noted the success of CDL since its inception in 1963 with just eight employees.

CDL Executive Chairman, Kwek Leng Beng, also took to the stage to reflect on its progress since he and his late father and Hong Leong Group founder Kwek Hong Png purchased a block of CDL shares in 1969. “We have come a long way,” he said, “from a humble home-based group to a globally recognized company, operating across five continents.”

The group’s CEO, Sherman Kwek, also delivered a tribute to past and present employees for their dedication, hard work and support. He noted the company’s core values of collaboration, integrity and innovation.

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, CDL has been devoted to giving back to various charitable organizations and initiatives. It has been working with the National Council of Social Service to set up a wellness center for children and families in City Square Mall, as well as raising funds for Community Chest. The company has also partnered with MigrantWell Singapore to enhance the well-being of its migrant workers and is currently constructing a new annexe for its Singapore Sustainability Academy located in City Square Mall.

CDL has achieved tremendous growth over the last 60 years, and the event was a heartwarming display of appreciation and admiration for all of its employees and success.
